Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run single and Yovani Gallardo pitched seven solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the host San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Saturday night.
Milwaukee loaded the bases in the fourth with one-out singles by Prince Fielder, Casey McGehee and Carlos Gomez. After Fielder was forced out at home, Lucroy singled to right field to score McGehee and Gomez as the Brewers defeated San Francisco for the second straight night.
The loss dropped the Giants back into second place in the National League West, a half-game behind the San Diego Padres.
Gallardo (13-7) gave up one run and five hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Kameron Loe pitched a perfect eighth and John Axford struck out the side in the ninth for his 22nd save of the season. Axford fanned Aubrey Huff, Buster Posey and Pat Burrell in order.
San Francisco’s lone run came in the fifth when Pablo Sandoval scored on Mike Fontenot’s fielder’s choice.
Tim Lincecum (14-10) gave up two runs and six hits in five innings. Lincecum had won three straight starts.
