Jaime Garcia pitched seven strong innings and Felipe Lopez scored three runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
Garcia bounced back from his worst start of the season with another solid performance. He lasted just two innings and gave up five runs in a loss to Kansas City in his last time out, but Garcia (8-4) was back in form Friday allowing three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Jason Motte pitched a perfect eighth and Ryan Franklin worked around a pair of hits in the ninth to complete the shutout.
Lopez scored in the first when Albert Pujols hit into a double play and again in the third when Pujols lifted a sacrifice fly. Tyler Greene made it 4-0 with a solo home run in the fifth and Lopez capped the scoring when he came around on a double by Matt Holliday.
Chris Narveson (7-5) allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings for Milwaukee.
Corey Hart, who was named the Brewers' player of the month for June when he hit .314 with five homers and 27 RBIs, went 2-for-3 with a walk.
