Yovani Gallardo went seven strong innings and helped his cause with a home run as the Milwaukee Brewers earned a 2-1 victory against the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
Gallardo (3-2) allowed six hits and one run with 11 strikeouts for the win. He opened the scoring with a solo homer in the third inning off Mat Latos.
Rickie Weeks had a pair of hits, including a solo homer in the fifth that would stand as the game-winner.
After LaTroy Hawkins worked the eighth inning, Trevor Hoffman set down the side in order against his former team for his fourth save. He had blown consecutive saves earlier this week before the successful conversion.
Chase Headley finished with four hits and Adrian Gonzalez drove in the Padres’ lone run with a single in the third that scored Tony Gwynn.
Latos (1-3) surrendered two runs and six hits in six innings.
