Ryan Ludwick had four RBIs and Clayton Richard pitched his first career shutout as the San Diego Padres blanked the host Los Angeles Dodgers 6-0 on Tuesday night.
Ludwick had a two-run single in the third inning, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth and had an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the ninth to help the Padres remain a half-game behind the San Francisco Giants in the National League West race.
Richard (13-8) scattered eight hits and walked two while beating Los Angeles for the third time this season. Richard struck out six en route to tossing his second career complete game.
After hitting Ludwick with the bases loaded in the fifth, Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley allowed a sacrifice fly to Yorvit Torrealba and a run-scoring single to Chase Headley as San Diego took a 5-0 lead.
Billingsley (11-11) gave up five runs and six hits in five innings.
