Brian Schneider and Ryan Howard each belted three-run homers to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday in the second game of a three-game set.
Schneider launched his shot to deep right field in the second inning to put the Phillies up 3-1. Howard followed with his blast in the third to extend the lead to 6-1. It was Howard's first home run since July 27 against Arizona.
The Dodgers clawed back in it with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to make it 6-4. Philadelphia responded in the seventh on a two-run, pinch-hit single by Carlos Ruiz.
Though not terribly effective, Kyle Kendrick (9-7) picked up the win. He allowed four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings. Kendrick left the game after allowing a two-run homer to James Loney in the sixth and Chad Durbin, J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson and closer Brad Lidge each pitched one scoreless inning of relief.
Carlos Monasterios (3-5) took the loss, allowing five runs and five hits in two-plus innings. He left after allowing back-to-back singles to open the third inning and was relieved by Ramon Troncoso, who came on and promptly gave up the three-run shot to Howard.
Matt Kemp had two hits and Loney finished with three RBIs for Los Angeles.
