Vicente Padilla pitched a two-hit shutout and Scott Podsednik delivered a key two-run single as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the visiting San Diego Padres 9-0 on Wednesday night.
Padilla took a no-hitter into the seventh but lost it on Ryan Ludwick’s one-out single to right field. Padilla (5-3) struck out nine while pitching his fourth career complete-game.
Chase Headley singled immediately after Ludwick’s hit but Padilla enticed Yorvit Torrealba to ground into a double play. He then retired the side in order in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Podsednik hit a two-run bloop single to center to cap the Dodgers’ three-run second inning. Jamey Carroll singled home Casey Blake with the first run of the frame.
Los Angeles made it 4-0 in the third on Ronnie Belliard’s run-scoring double.
In the eighth, Padilla had a run-scoring single for his second hit of the game, Ryan Theriot doubled home two runs and Andre Ethier clubbed a two-run homer.
Either went 3-for-5 for the Dodgers, who had 12 hits.
Padres starter Wade LeBlanc (5-10) allowed four runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. LeBlanc is 1-6 in his last eight starts.
