The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals as they continue to surge since the calendar hit the month of June with Wednesday’s 4-3 victory.
Manny Ramirez belted a two-run homer and Blake DeWitt drove in a pair of runs as the Dodgers moved to 7-2 in the month and pulled a full game ahead of San Diego in the National League West.
Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw (6-3) continued his recent personal tear, allowing four hits and three earned runs with 10 strikeouts over seven innings. The left-hander has given up just 10 earned runs over his past seven starts.
Jonathan Broxton earned his 16th save despite allowing runners to reach second and third in the ninth before inducing a groundout by Randy Winn to end things.
Ramirez, who had the game-winner on Tuesday, hit a two-run shot off Adam Wainwright in the first and DeWitt hit a two-run single in the third to score Ramirez and James Loney.
The Cardinals offense was provided by Ryan Ludwick, who connected on a three-run shot in the fourth inning for his third home run of the series and 10th overall.
Wainwright (8-4) allowed four earned in six innings on eight hits with five walks and six strikeouts as St. Louis lost its season-high fourth straight.
