Adam Dunn homered twice and Luis Atilano got a victory in his major league debut Friday night as the Washington Nationals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-1.
Dunn, who’s been mired in a slump all season, hit a solo homer and a two-run shot off knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (0-2) in raising his average over .200 for the first time (.204). His second home run in the sixth inning made it 4-1.
Atilano (1-0), who was called-up from Triple-A earlier in the day, surrendered just one run on five hits in six innings and never got himself into too much trouble.
Nyjer Morgan tripled and scored on an Adam Kennedy single in the first to give Washington a 1-0 lead. Morgan added an RBI double in the seventh.
A.J. Ellis grounded out to give Los Angeles its only run in the fourth inning. Manny Ramirez missed the game after being placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a calf injury.
