Wandy Rodriguez threw seven dominant innings and Hunter Pence drove in a pair as the Houston Astros shut out the St. Louis Cardinals for the second night in a row with Tuesday’s 3-0 win.
Chris Johnson added an RBI and Michael Bourn chipped in two hits for the Astros, who have won eight of their last 10.
Rodriguez (11-12) continued his latest run of strong starts, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out five. The left-hander has allowed two runs or less in eight straight starts.
Rodriguez got all the support he needed in the fourth when Houston got to Chris Carpenter (14-5) for three runs. Pence tripled in Bourn and Angel Sanchez for the first two and Johnson added an RBI single.
Three relievers bridged the gap to Brandon Lyon, who allowed two runners to reach in the ninth but hung on to earn his 10th save.
Matt Holliday had one of three hits for the Cardinals, who are 3-11 in their last 14 games against sub-.500 teams.
