Todd Wellemeyer pitched 7 1/3 solid innings and Andres Torres had three extra-base hits and two RBIs as the San Francisco Giants ended a three-game losing skid with an 8-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night.
Wellemeyer (2-3) gave up two runs and five hits while winning his second consecutive decision. Torres doubled twice and had a run-scoring triple in the eighth.
San Francisco’s win snapped Houston’s four-game winning streak.
The Giants took a 4-0 lead with three second-inning runs. Matt Downs and Torres each doubled in a run and Pablo Sandoval’s groundout scored the other.
Hunter Pence homered in the fourth for Houston before San Francisco pulled away in the fifth by scoring three runs. Two of the runs scored on wild pitches and the other came on Nate Schierholtz’s single.
Houston starter Felipe Paulino (0-6) gave up seven earned runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Paulino is now 0-3 lifetime in three starts against San Francisco. He has allowed 20 earned runs in 11 innings against the Giants.
