Anibal Sanchez tossed a one-hit shutout and Mike Stanton drove in a pair of runs as the Florida Marlins breezed to a 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday afternoon.
Ronny Paulino lifted two sacrifice flys and Dan Uggla and Jorge Cantu scored a pair of runs for Florida, which salvaged a four-game split.
Sanchez was lights out in allowing just a fifth inning single to Pablo Sandoval. He tied a career-high with eight strikeouts and walked one on 118 pitches in earning his first win in six starts.
It was the right-hander’s first shutout since tossing a no-hitter in 2006.
Stanton had a pair of run-scoring doubles in the first four innings for a 2-0 lead. Florida would add a pair of runs in the eighth for the healthy cushion.
San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner (4-3) was charged with three runs and six hits in six innings to absorb the loss. He struck out five against two walks.
Rookie catcher Buster Posey went hitless in three at-bats and snapped his 21-game hitting streak for the Giants.
