Jon Garland did a little of everything to lead the San Diego Padres to another victory over the Florida Marlins as he outdueled Josh Johnson and drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph.
San Diego has won the first two games of this three-game set, limiting Florida to just one run in the two games.
Garland (8-5) went 6 2/3 innings and allowed the run and four hits. He walked one and struck out four to win his second straight start after a three-start losing skid.
With the game tied 1-1, Garland lifted a sacrifice fly to right in the fifth to put the Padres ahead for good.
Heath Bell allowed a hit in the ninth but struck out two to pick up his 21st save of the season.
Johnson (8-3) pitched well, allowing two runs and five hits in eight innings. The right-hander struck out nine and it was the first time in nine starts that he has allowed more than one run.
Mike Stanton drove in Florida's only run with a sac fly in the second to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.
