Cody Ross drove in a pair of runs and the Florida Marlins rode a three-run first inning to a 5-1 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday.
Anibal Sanchez (1-1) worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on nine hits as Florida avoided the three-game sweep.
The Marlins scored a pair of runs on an error by Carlos Lee and added another on Uggla’s groundout for the 3-0 advantage.
Ross brought in two more with a single up the middle in the sixth.
Houston starter Felipe Paulino (0-2) surrendered five runs -- two earned -- on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in the losing effort.
Michael Bourn recorded a pair of hits and drove in Houston’s lone run on a single in the seventh.
