Ian Stewart belted a go-ahead grand slam during a five-run seventh inning for the Colorado Rockies in a wild 10-8 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night.
Stewart finished with two home runs and six RBIs and Carlos Gonzalez connected for a two-run homer as Colorado won for the fifth consecutive game.
This one wasn’t easy as the Rockies, who trailed 3-0, put a five-spot on the board in the third to grab a 5-3 lead only to watch the Padres storm back for five unanswered runs.
But trailing 8-5 entering the seventh, the Rockies worked some magic when Jason Giambi brought in a run with a single, three batters before Stewart cleared the bases with his 11th blast of the season to put Colorado back ahead.
Matt Belisle (4-3), who was one of seven pitchers used by the Rockies, picked up the win by working one inning. Huston Street closed out the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to notch the save.
Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Aaron Cunningham had three hits and two RBIs for San Diego, which has dropped three of four.
Luke Gregerson (2-5) was dealt the loss by allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
