Backup catcher George Kottaras knocked in a pair of runs and the Milwaukee Brewers overcame a three-run deficit in Wednesday’s 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Rickie Weeks, Alcides Escobar and Jody Gerut had an RBI apiece as the Brewers took two of three in the series.
Todd Coffey (1-0) tossed two scoreless frames in relief of starter Doug Davis to get the win. Six relievers combined to hold the Rockies to two hits over the last five innings.
Trevor Hoffman picked up his second save in as many days and the 593rd of his career.
The Brewers dug out of a 4-1 hole and took the lead for good in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Kottaras and a double by Gerut.
Colorado starter Aaron Cook (0-1) gave up four runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Miguel Olivo homered and Troy Tulowitzki and Melvin Mora drove in runs for the Rockies, who were staked a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
