Geovany Soto homered and had three RBIs and Aramis Ramirez also homered to help the Chicago Cubs to a 7-3 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
Soto hit a two-run homer during Chicago’s three-run second inning. Starlin Castro singled in the first run before Soto went deep to left-center field.
Castro and Soto each had run-scoring singles during the Cubs’ three-run third. The other run came across when Alfonso Soriano walked with the bases loaded.
Ramirez accounted for Chicago’s final run with a seventh-inning homer.
Cubs pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (4-5) gave up two runs – one earned – and six hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked one.
The Dodgers’ runs off Gorzelanny occurred in the fifth inning. Andre Ethier singled home Xavier Paul and Rafael Furcal also scored on the play due to an error by Chicago center fielder Marlon Byrd.
Ethier also had a run-scoring single in the ninth.
Dodgers starter John Ely (4-7) lasted just 2 1/3 innings. Ely gave up six runs and five hits.
