Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto each belted a pair of home runs and drove in three runs to carry the Chicago Cubs to a 9-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Derrek Lee hit a two-run homer and Jeff Baker had an RBI as Chicago did all of its damage in three innings.
The offensive support was enough for Carlos Zambrano (2-4) to get back in the win column since returning to the rotation after a stint in the bullpen. The right-hander allowed three runs on two hits with five walks in five innings.
Byrd got the scoring started with a two-run shot in the first and Soto followed with a solo blast in the second for the 3-1 lead.
Lee got in on the act in the fifth with the 300th homer of his career, before Byrd and Soto closed out the frame with their second home runs.
Ryan Braun and starting pitcher Randy Wolf each had a pair of RBIs for the Brewers.
Braun’s two-run double got them on the board in the first and Wolf then evened things up at 3-3 with a two-run double.
Wolf (4-6) allowed eight runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
