Ted Lilly was sharp in his season debut and five players drove in a run for the Chicago Cubs as they secured a 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
Ryan Theriot, Marlon Byrd, Aramis Ramirez and Jeff Baker all collected RBIs for the Cubs, who built up a five-run lead through eight innings.
Lilly (1-0) won his first start since being activated from the disabled list with six shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Carlos Zambrano made his first appearance in the bullpen since being taken out of the rotation. He surrendered a run-scoring single by Corey Hart in the eighth after knocking in a rare run of his own in the top half of the frame.
Milwaukee starter Doug Davis (0-2) surrendered two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
