Alfonso Soriano collected three hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three runs in leading the Chicago Cubs to a 9-3 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday night.
Carlos Silva (2-0) continued his fine pitching with his new team, scattering just two hits and one run over six innings for the Cubs, who snapped a four-game losing streak.
Soriano had an RBI single, then belted a two-run homer off reliever Manny Acosta, breaking open a close game to make it 5-1. He also had a triple and scored a run earlier in the game against Mets starter Oliver Perez (0-2).
The Mets could not draw close after Rod Barajas hit a solo homer to give them a 1-0 lead.
