Mike Pelfrey continued his recent dominance with seven scoreless innings on Tuesday in leading the New York Mets to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Pelfrey (3-0), who struggled throughout his 2009 campaign, extended his current scoreless inning streak to 19, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters in lowering his ERA to 0.86.
Jose Reyes came out of an early-season slump with four hits and drove in two runs with a triple. Fernando Tatis smacked a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning, extending the lead to 4-0 for the Mets.
Chicago starter Carlos Zambrano (1-2) pitched well and much better than he looked in prior starts, surrendering two runs on six hits in six innings, but took the loss.
