Justin Maxwell hit a grand slam and the Washington Nationals held on to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Turner Field.
The win lifted the Nationals to only their second series victory on the road this season and sent the Braves to their second series loss at home this year - and their first since dropping two of three to Philadelphia from April 20-22.
Maxwell, who entered the game hitting .132, gave the Nationals a 4-0 lead with his third career grand slam in the second inning.
The blast came against Braves rookie Mike Minor, who suffered his first major league loss. Minor (3-1) allowed four runs on four hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Nationals left-hander John Lannan (8-7) threw six solid innings for the win. He allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out six.
Drew Storen pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
Melky Cabrera and Martin Prado drove in runs for Atlanta, which has lost three of four.
