Ryan Zimmerman doubled in a pair and Josh Willingham hit a two-run homer as the Washington Nationals easily dispatched the Atlanta Braves 7-2 on Tuesday.
Craig Stammen was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to make the start. He allowed two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings while walking two and striking out four for the Nationals, who snapped a five-game skid.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Martin Prado’s RBI triple in the third and Derek Lowe held the edge until the fifth, when Washington jumped on top with three runs. Nyjer Morgan singled in the tying run before Zimmerman’s ground-rule double pushed Alberto Gonzalez and Morgan across to give the Nationals the lead.
Gonzalez added an RBI single in the sixth - part of a four-hit night - and Willingham’s 14th blast of the season put the game away in the seventh.
Lowe was charged with four runs in 5 2/3 innings - marking just the second time in his last 10 outings that the veteran right-hander allowed more than three runs.
