Jason Heyward laced a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Martin Prado and lift the Atlanta Braves to a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
It was the Braves' second win in their last at-bat in as many nights after they scored in the ninth to beat the New York Mets on Tuesday.
The Reds rallied from a 4-0 deficit to spoil an outstanding effort from Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami, who threw six scoreless innings and allowed five hits.
Cincinnati scored three in the eighth against Takashi Saito, then tied it in the ninth on rookie Chris Heisey's pinch-hit homer off Billy Wagner (4-0).
But Nick Masset (3-2) couldn't get the Reds into extra innings. After retiring the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth, Masset allowed a single to Prado before Heyward's hit. Prado was off on contact and slid head first across home plate before the throw arrived.
Heyward went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple and Chipper Jones and Brian McCann each added two hits and two RBIs for the Braves. McCann hit his fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot off Aaron Harang in the first.
