Jaime Garcia pitched seven scoreless innings and the St. Louis Cardinals handed the Atlanta Braves their eighth consecutive loss with a 6-0 victory on Wednesday night.
Garcia (2-1) allowed four hits and one walk while lowering his earned-run average to 1.04. Relievers Kyle McClellan and Mitchell Boggs finished up the shutout.
Atlanta’s losing skid is its longest since a 10-game losing streak in June 2006. The Braves have been outscored 34-13 during the slide.
St. Louis has won four consecutive games.
The Cardinals scored two runs on wild pitches in the first three innings -- Ryan Ludwick scored on one in the first and Skip Schumaker crossed the plate on another in the third. St. Louis scored its initial run of the game on Albert Pujols’ first-inning single.
Colby Rasmus doubled in a run in the fifth to make it 4-0 and David Freese singled in two runs later in the inning.
Atlanta starter Kenshin Kawakami (0-4) allowed five runs -- four earned -- and five hits in 4 1/3 innings.
