Pablo Sandoval, Andres Torres and Buster Posey all homered as the San Francisco Giants moved closer to the National League West crown with a 4-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon.
Torres’ fifth-inning homer put San Francisco ahead to stay and Posey hit a two-run shot in the following inning as the Giants reduced their magic number to two. San Francisco can clinch the division on Friday if it defeats second-place San Diego.
Sandoval started the scoring with his second-inning homer. Arizona tied the game in the fourth on Barry Enright’s sacrifice fly.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner (7-6) struck out seven in five innings and allowed one run and seven hits.
San Francisco relievers Santiago Casilla (two innings), Sergio Romo (one) and Ramon Ramirez combined for four hitless innings with Ramirez working the ninth for his third save.
Enright (6-7) gave up all three San Francisco homers in five-plus innings. He allowed four runs and five hits.
