Called up from Triple-A Reno before the game, Brandon Allen belted a grand slam in the seventh inning to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
The reeling Padres, who dropped their seventh in a row, began the day with a four-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.
Luke Gregerson (3-7) relieved Mat Latos to begin the seventh with the Padres holding a 2-1 lead, but ran into immediate trouble. Mark Reynolds drew a leadoff walk, Miguel Montero reached on shortstop Miguel Tejada's error and Gerardo Parra singled to load the bases.
Allen then hammered a 1-1 pitch into the seats in right, giving Arizona a sweep of the three-game series.
Barry Enright (6-2) allowed two runs in seven innings and Juan Gutierrez pitched the ninth for his sixth save.
Tejada's leadoff home run in the fourth gave San Diego the lead.
Latos had another strong outing, giving up one run - Chris Young's homer in the sixth - and striking out 10 in six innings.
