The San Diego Padres hit four home runs and got a strong effort
from their bullpen to post an 8-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on
Saturday.
Jerry Hairston Jr., Adrian Gonzalez, Yorvit Torrealba and Tony
Gwynn hit homers for the Padres, who won despite being outhit 10-8.
Gonzalez hit his 20th of the season in the fifth inning, a solo shot to center that broke a 4-4 tie. Gwynn added an inside-the-park homer in the sixth to make it 6-4.
Clayton Richard (7-4) picked up the win, allowing five runs and
nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. Ryan Webb and Joe Thatcher each recorded an
out to finish the seventh and Luke Gregerson struck out one in the
eighth. Heath Bell tossed a perfect ninth for his 25th save.
Rodrigo Lopez (5-8) took the loss, allowing six runs and six hits
in six innings. He walked three and struck out three while allowing all
four San Diego homers.
Chris Young went 3-for-5 with a solo homer for Arizona.
