Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer to help the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.
Arizona reliever Blaine Boyer (1-2) gave-up the go-ahead run in the eighth inning after Cody Rasmus greeted him with a double and scored on Adam LaRoche’s fielder error on Yadier Molina’s groundball to make it 3-2.
Holliday's homer in the fifth had tied it at 2-2.
Brad Penny (2-0) had another strong showing with his seven-inning effort in which he gave up two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
Arizona starter Rodrigo Lopez took the no-decision in seven innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with four walks with seven strikeouts.
Mark Reynolds had a two-run double in the first for the Diamondbacks, who lost for the fifth straight time.
