The San Diego Padres scored six runs in the final three innings, all off relievers, in a 6-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks that ended when Chase Headley hit a three-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday.
It was the fifth blown save in three games for the Diamondbacks' bullpen.
After Arizona starter Edwin Jackson did his part in throwing six scoreless innings, while allowing three hits and four walks with three strikeouts, he turned it over to the bullpen with a 3-0 lead.
Bobby Howry was touched for a run in the seventh and Aaron Heilman did the same in the eighth. Usual setup man Juan Gutierrez (0-1) had a chance to pick up his first save of the season as closer Chad Qualls got the night off.
Nick Hundley opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk as the Padres trailed 3-2. After a sacrifice bunt and strikeout, David Eckstein doubled to left to tie it. Adrian Gonzalez was intentionally walked before Headley took a 1-1 pitch deep into the seats in right field for the walkoff winner.
San Diego closer Heath Bell (1-0) earned the win.
