Edwin Encarnacion hit his fifth home run of the weekend Sunday to power the Toronto Blue Jays to a 12-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
Encarnacion entered action on Friday with two home runs on the season and left with seven as he had fun all weekend against the Arizona pitching staff, which has allowed the most home runs in the majors.
His two-run shot off starter Billy Buckner in the fifth inning was part of a five-run uprising that blew open a 3-2 ballgame. Jose Bautista started that rally with a two-run shot of his own, his 14th.
Buckner didn’t record an out in the fifth and finished his outing with seven earned runs while allowing 11 hits and a walk in four-plus innings. He struck out two.
Catcher Jose Molina added three hits and reserve infielder John McDonald had two hits and two RBIs.
Shaun Marcum improved to 4-1 with the win as he went five innings while allowing three earned runs, six hits and a walk. He struck out eight.
Center fielder Chris Young was the bright spot offensively for Arizona with two hits and two RBIs, , including his seventh home run of the year.
