Brett Cecil threw seven sensational innings and Lyle Overbay drove home the winning run as the Toronto Blue Jays edged the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 Friday.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh frame, Overbay put the Jays in front for good.
After Jose Bautista reached on a error by Rays starter Matt Garza (11-6), Adam Lind smacked a one-out single to right field. One out later, Overbay doubled to left field to score Bautista with the go-ahead run.
Toronto held on from there to win for the third time in its past four games.
Cecil (9-5) outduelled Garza to earn just his second win since June 10. The left-hander allowed a run on four hits while striking out nine.
Shawn Camp twirled a perfect eighth inning and Kevin Gregg worked the ninth for his 25th save.
Garza was the hard-luck loser, allowing a pair of unearned runs on four hits while going the distance for the third time this season. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
