The Tampa Bay Rays scored four runs in the 11th inning and needed every one of them to outlast the Florida Marlins, 9-8, on Saturday in an interleague matchup.
B.J. Upton and Reid Brignac each drew a bases loaded walk in the 11th to bring in a run and they both came around to score on a single by Jason Bartlett that made it 9-5.
Florida did not go quietly in the home half of the 11th, scoring three times and getting runners to second and third with two outs before Dan Uggla flew out to deep right field to end the game.
James Shields (6-6) picked up the win, allowing a walk in the 10th. Andy Sonnanstine earned his first save of the season as he came on after the Marlins scored three runs in the 11th and had runners on the corners. Sonnanstine struck out the first two batters he faced before retiring Uggla to end it.
Jorge Sosa (1-2) took the loss after yielding four runs, one hit and walking four in the 11th.
Carl Crawford went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Rays.
Hanley Ramirez and Chris Coghlan each had three RBIs for the Marlins.
