Josh Wilson singled in Ryan Langerhans with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Seattle Mariners earned a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday to win the three-game series.
Langerhans led off the bottom of the seventh with triple to right. Wilson followed with a single to left against Tommy Hunter (12-4), who took the loss.
Seattle starter Doug Fister (6-12) scattered one run and nine hits over seven innings to earn his second win in three starts. Nelson Cruz’s 21st homer in the sixth was the only damage done by the Rangers (83-65).
David Aardsma walked a pair in the ninth but worked out of the jam to earn his 31st save, and eighth in a row.
The Mariners (57-92) tied the score in the bottom of the sixth. Chone Figgins singled off second base and then scored on a double to left by Franklin Gutierrez.
In his six-plus innings, Hunter allowed two runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Texas’ magic number to clinch the AL West remained at six.
