Vladimir Guerrero homered and had four RBIs as the Texas Rangers broke out of an offensive slump with a 10-3 victory over the host Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
Guerrero homered in the second and hit a three-run double during the Rangers’ five-run seventh inning that broke open a close game.
Texas had scored just 14 runs in seven games before breaking out against the Athletics and expanding their American League West lead to eight games with nine contests left.
Texas can clinch the division by beating Oakland on Saturday.
Jeff Francoeur homered and had three of the Rangers’ 18 hits. Guerrero also had three hits, while Francoeur and Julio Borbon had two RBIs apiece.
Tommy Hunter (13-4) went 5 1/3 innings for the win, giving up one run and six hits.
Oakland starter Bobby Cramer (2-1) gave up four runs and eight hits in six-plus innings.
