Dallas Braden pitched his fourth career complete game and Mark Ellis had three doubles and three RBIs as the Oakland Athletics earned a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday afternoon.
Braden (7-8) tossed a four-hitter, allowing one run with six strikeouts in picking up his first career victory at Safeco Field. It was just his third win in nine decisions since tossing a perfect game on May 9.
Ellis gave the A’s a 4-0 lead with a two-run double in the fifth inning and added an RBI double in the eighth. Coco Crisp and Landon Powell each had RBI singles for Oakland, which avoided the three-game sweep.
Seattle, which had its three-game winning streak snapped, scored on Franklin Gutierrez’s sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Luke French (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings for the last-place Mariners, who moved to 1-2 under interim manager Daren Brown.
