Trevor Cahill continued his success against the Texas Rangers, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 3-2 victory over the AL West leaders on Sunday afternoon.
Cahill (12-4) went eight innings, allowing two runs, both unearned, on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts. He entered the game with a 1.83 ERA against the Rangers.
Oakland reliever Michael Wuertz got into trouble in the ninth, putting runners at first and second, but escaped with no damage after getting Vladimir Guerrero to ground into a game-ending double play.
The Rangers took a two-run lead in the sixth, scoring runs on Josh Hamilton’s RBI single and Nelson Cruz’s sacrifice fly.
Oakland scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on Rajai Davis’s sacrifice fly. The A’s took the lead in the seventh with an RBI double from Coco Crisp and a sacrifice fly from Kurt Suzuki.
Texas starter Colby Lewis went six innings, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Rangers reliever Darren Oliver (0-1) allowed both runs in the seventh and took the loss.
