Oakland pitching stymied San Francisco batters for the third straight day and Jake Fox broke a scoreless tie with a seventh-inning double as the Athletics completed a sweep of the visiting Giants with a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Adam Rosales led off the Oakland seventh with a single, was sacrificed to second, and scored on Fox’s double.
Kurt Suzuki and Ryan Sweeney had run-scoring singles in the eighth for the Athletics.
Oakland used five pitchers in shutting out San Francisco, giving up three hits. Reliever Michael Wuertz (1-0) got the win and Andrew Bailey recorded his eighth save.
This is the second straight three-hit shutout that Oakland pitched against San Francisco, as the Giants only scored one run the entire series.
Oakland has an American League-leading six shutouts this season.
Oakland starter Ben Sheets scattered two hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out eight.
Giants lefthander Jonathan Sanchez (2-4) was on the wrong end of a shutout for the third time this season. Sanchez was removed after walking the leadoff hitter in the eighth. He gave up two runs and three hits.
