Toronto hit three more home runs to make a winner out of Shaun Marcum as the Blue Jays routed the Oakland Athletics 9-3 in the finale of a four-game series at the Rogers Centre Sunday.
Aaron Hill Had three hits and his second homer of the year and Alex Gonzalez added his eighth home run of the season to pace the Blue Jays. Fred Lewis had his first home run as a Blue Jay.
Marcum (1-1), who hadn’t won a game since 2008, yielded one run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Ben Sheets (1-3) struggled for the second straight start. He was charged with all nine runs on 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Sheets, who missed the entire 2009 season following elbow surgery, watched his ERA soar to 7.12.
The Blue Jays scored four times in the bottom of the first. Hill and Vernon Wells had RBI doubles and Gonzalez followed with a two-run homer. Toronto added two more in the second. John McDonald and Lewis had RBIs.
John Buck had three hits for Toronto.
