Sabathia (19-5) allowed just one hit over eight innings. He walked three and struck out five.

Curtis Granderson homered twice for the Yankees, who have won six straight games and lead the American League East by 1.5 games over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jorge Posada also homered for the Yankees. His solo shot opened the scoring in the second inning off loser Dallas Braden (9-10).

Granderson hit a solo homer in the sixth and then added a two-run homer, his 17th of the season, in the seventh inning to make it 4-0. New York added another run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Austin Kearns.

Nick Swisher started the game but left after one inning with an undisclosed injury.
