David Murphy singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Texas Rangers edged the New York Yankees 4-3 on Tuesday.
The Rangers jumped all over Yankees closer Mariano Rivera (3-2) after the Yanks were held scoreless in the top of the inning. Michael Young and Josh Hamilton opened with singles, and advanced on a Vladimir Guerrero groundout.
After Nelson Cruz was intentionally walked, Murphy came to the plate and singled to shallow right-center, bringing home Young with the winning run.
The late heroics made a winner out of Neftali Feliz (3-2), who threw two scoreless innings. Rivera surrendered just his fifth earned run in 41 1/3 innings this season.
Murphy also homered for the Rangers, who improved to 10-16 against American League East opponents this season.
Alex Rodriguez went deep in defeat for New York, which had to do without first baseman Mark Teixeira. The former Ranger remained home in New York for the birth of his third child.
Yankees starter A.J. Burnett allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings, walking two and striking out four. Texas' C.J. Wilson surrendered a pair of runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, with three walks and five Ks.
