Felix Hernandez pitched a dominating two-hit shutout and was backed by four home runs as the Seattle Mariners clubbed the New York Yankees 7-0 on Wednesday night.
Hernandez (6-5) was in complete control throughout against the Yankees, striking out a season-high 11 batters in his third consecutive complete game.
Michael Saunders belted a pair of home runs, Russell Branyan had a two-run blast and Milton Bradley added a solo shot as the Mariners beat up on the defending World Series champions for the second straight night.
In winning his third straight decision, Hernandez allowed just a double to Mark Teixeira in the fourth and a two-bagger to Colin Curtis in the fifth in following up Cliff Lee’s complete-game win on Tuesday night.
It was the first time a team had back-to-back complete-game wins against the Yankees since Toronto did it in April 2000.
Yankees starter Javier Vazquez (6-7) pitched decently, allowing three runs and six hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked two, giving up the solo homers to Bradley and Saunders.
Branyan, in his second game with Seattle since being re-acquired in a trade with Cleveland over the weekend, slammed a two-run homer in the seventh and Saunders made it a laugher with his two-run shot in the eighth.
