CC Sabathia shut out the New York Mets for eight innings and Mark Teixeira hit a grand slam as the New York Yankees salvaged a season split of the Subway Series with a 4-0 victory Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
Santana (5-4) allowed the four runs on eight hits over six innings. He made only one major mistake -- Teixeira's 12th homer of the season in the third inning -- but the Mets didn't give him any run support.
Sabathia (8-3) made sure of that by limiting the Mets to four hits and two walks to win his fourth consecutive start. He struck out six. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth in a non-save situation to complete the shutout.
Derek Jeter returned to the Yankees' lineup after sitting out Saturday with a bruised right heel. He went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Teixeira's grand slam was the fifth of his career and first as a Yankee.
The Yankees took over the American League East lead and the best record in the majors, moving a game ahead of Tampa Bay, which lost 4-1 at Florida.
