Evan Longoria had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to their fifth straight win Wednesday night, a 10-6 triumph over the New York Yankees.
Longoria led a balanced attack as the Rays (29-11) extended their franchise-best start. Tampa Bay has the best record in the majors, and pushed its American League East lead over the Yankees to four games.
Jason Bartlett hit his first home run of the season for the Rays, while Jason Jaso added two hits, scoring twice and driving in a pair. Seven starters had a hit and Tampa Bay added six stolen bases – including two each from Longoria and B.J. Upton.
Rays starter Wade Davis (4-3) labored over 5 2/3 innings but had plenty of offensive support. He allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out seven as he ended a two-game losing streak.
Yankees hurler A.J. Burnett (4-2) was thumped for six runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander has allowed 18 runs in 17 2/3 innings over his past three starts, going 0-2 over that span.
Francisco Cervelli and Ramiro Pena each drove in a pair of runs for the Yankees, while Robinson Cano had four hits and Alex Rodriguez belted a solo home run.
