Vazquez (1-2) allowed three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings in New York’s fifth win in a row.

The Yankees scored three runs in the first on Jorge Posada’s run-scoring single off Gio Gonzalez (1-1) and Nick Swisher’s two-run single.

New York’s lead increased to 6-0 in the top of the fifth on Alex Rodriguez’s three-run homer.

Oakland got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on Travis Buck’s first homer of the season. Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run blast in the sixth to pull the A’s within 6-3.
