Ervin Santana went eight strong innings and newly acquired third baseman Alberto Callaspo drove in two runs to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Jeff Mathis homered and Erick Aybar had three hits and an RBI as the Angels regrouped after dropping the first two games of the four-game series.
Santana (9-7), who entered with a lifetime 6.06 ERA at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, held Texas scoreless for the first five innings before giving up a solo home run to Michael Young in the sixth. He also served up a homer to Nelson Cruz in the seventh.
By that point, the Angels had built a comfortable lead. Mathis had a solo home run in the fifth and Aybar added an RBI triple later in the inning. Callaspo had a run-scoring single in the sixth to put the Angels up 3-0.
The Angels cushioned their lead with three runs in the seventh on an RBI single from Maicer Izturis, an RBI double from Bobby Abreu and a sacrifice fly from Callaspo.
Texas starter Scott Feldman (5-9) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and no strikeouts.
