Erick Aybar hit a go-ahead home run in the 10th inning, helping the Los Angeles Angels snap a five-game skid with a 6-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics Friday.
Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu each homered and Hideki Matsui also drove in a run for the Angels, who bounced back after being held to a season-low two hits on Wednesday.
Jack Cust homered for the A’s, who have lost four straight. Kurt Suzuki, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Coco Crisp and Gabe Gross each drove in a run for Oakland.
The A's rallied to tie it at 5-5 in the eighth, and the game remained deadlocked until Aybar drilled 2-0 fastball from Oakland closer Andrew Bailey (0-3) to right field for his third homer of the season.
Kevin Jepsen (1-1) threw a perfect ninth and Brian Fuentes earned his 15th save in 20 chances with a flawless 10th.
Oakland fell behind 5-3 when Hunter belted a two-run homer off Craig Breslow in the eighth. But the A’s rallied against Fernando Rodney in the bottom half of the frame. Suzuki had an RBI single and scored on Kouzmanoff’s double to left.
The comeback denied Joel Pineiro a career-best seventh straight win. The right-hander allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings.
