Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick homered as the Los Angeles Angels celebrated their first-ever visit to Wrigley Field with a 7-6 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.
Hunter's solo homer to deep center field broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, and Kendrick added some insurance with a two-run shot in the seventh. Hunter finished with two hits, a stolen base and three runs scored for the Angels, who survived a spirited ninth-inning Chicago comeback for their 12th win in the last 15 road games.
Scott Kazmir (7-5) was solid in the victory, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He issued three walks and struck out three.
The Cubs made it close with four runs in the ninth inning, chasing Francisco Rodriguez. Fernando Rodney came on and surrendered a solo home run to Derrek Lee -- his second of the game -- before retiring Geovany Soto on a groundout to end the threat for his sixth save.
Tyler Colvin also went deep for Chicago, which committed three errors in the loss.
Carlos Silva (8-2) lost his second straight start, surrendering three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
