Torii Hunter had three hits and three RBIs and the Los Angeles Angels roughed up Seattle’s bullpen for 10 runs, cruising to an 11-2 victory over the Mariners Saturday afternoon.
Howie Kendrick and Maicer Izturis each drove in a pair of runs as the Angels took advantage of 10 walks and 12 hits to win their fourth consecutive game and take the three-game series, which concludes Sunday.
Ervin Santana (6-3) won his fifth consecutive start, allowing one run on seven hits in six innings.
The Mariners tied the score in the fifth when Ichiro Suzuki, who doubled, scored his 1,000th run on Franklin Gutierrez’s ground out.
Then the Mariners’ bullpen completely fell apart. Los Angeles scored six runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. The Angels’ sixth included three hits, five walks and a hit batter.
Garrett Olson (0-1) and Shawn Kelley, who walked four, each allowed three runs in one-third of an inning. Sean White ended the inning by getting a ground out, but allowed four runs in the seventh on Kendrick’s two-run single and Hunter’s two-run double.
Seattle starter Ryan Rowland-Smith, making an emergency start for fatigued Doug Fister, pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run. He walked three but left trailing just 1-0.
