Mike Aviles slammed a three-run homer and Kila Ka'aihue and Wilson Betemit added two-run blasts to power the Kansas City Royals to an 11-3 rout of the visiting Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.
Zack Greinke (9-12) was the beneficiary of the offensive eruption, allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings to win for the first time since Aug. 17.
Betemit had three hits and four RBIs and Aviles had his second consecutive three-hit game with three RBIs as Kansas City bolted to an 11-0 lead after three innings.
A's left-hander Gio Gonzalez (14-9), who had won his previous four starts, was battered for seven runs and seven hits in two-plus innings - his shortest outing of the season.
Ka'aihue belted a two-run homer in the first and had an RBI single in the second as the Royals built a 6-0 lead. They put the game out of reach in the third when Aviles and Betemit went deep to make it 11-0.
Landon Powell and Jack Cust had RBI singles for the A's.
