Zack Greinke allowed two hits in seven innings and Wilson Betemit homered, had three hits and drove in all of Kansas City’s runs in a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
Betemit hit his fourth homer off Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-8) in the fifth and had RBI singles in the sixth and eighth as the Royals won their fourth consecutive series.
Greinke (5-8) allowed just one unearned run on two hits in seven innings for his fourth consecutive winning decision. The 2009 Cy Young Award winner started the season 1-8.
Joakim Soria earned his 24th save with a one-hit ninth.
Rowland-Smith got the start after Erik Bedard was scratched from making his season debut. He allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings.
The Mariners pulled to 3-2 in the eighth inning when Jack Wilson, scored on Chone Figgins’ sacrifice fly against Blake Wood.
With speedy Ichiro Suzuki on first and two outs, Russell Branyan hit a fair ball deep along the first-base line that was ruled a ground-rule double when a fan grabbed it, stopping Ichiro at third. Jose Lopez then grounded out to end the inning.
